Joshua April 2009 saw us begin a journey through the book of Joshua. This Old Testament book is an important movement in the unfolding story of God's plan to rescue and restore humanity. It tells the story of Joshua leading the nation of Israel in a conquest of the land of Canaan. This story also points us forward to Jesus, who offers true rest for all those who follow him. Click here to access this series. Click here to get the accompanying study notes for this series.

Mark Remixed We worked our way through the gospel of Mark during 2008, exploring this portrait of Jesus of Nazareth. Mark tells us a lot about the kingdom of God and what Jesus intended to accomplished through his life, death and resurrection. Click here access this series. Click here to get the accompanying study notes for this series.

What on Earth is God Doing? This five-week series looks at the big story of God's mission on planet earth from beginning to end, creation to new creation, Genesis to Revelation. Our idea of "missions" often gets narrowed to only planting churches in foreign countries, but God's vision for the world is much broader and grander than that. Click here to access this series.

Hebrews In 2007, we worked through the book of Hebrews. This masterful letter in the New Testament describes Jesus as superior to all the institutions and characters of Judaism who came before him. It challenges us to depend on Jesus alone for life and forgiveness and to move ever closer to him. Click here to access this series. Click here to get the accompanying study notes for this series.

Life Groups - Life Groups

We believe that becoming a fully-devoted disciple of Jesus Christ happens best in the context of community, not in isolation. That's why we place a big emphasis on life groups. These are small groups of around 10 people that meet together, usually weekly, to study the Bible and its relevance for our lives, as well as build relationships and care for one another in a relaxed environment.

Life groups exist for three reasons:

Community - developing authentic relationships with each other
Discipleship - growing to become more like Jesus
Caring - helping to meet each others' needs

If you're making Shore your church home, we encourage you to consider joining a life group. We have a range of groups to suit different ages, schedules and life-stages.

Click here to download our brochure on Life Groups

If you're interested in joining a life group, contact Carl Becker at carl@shore.org.nz who will help you find the right group for you.

Giving - Giving

Financial giving to God's church is simply part of following Jesus. Just as God asks us to honour him in our relationships, and with our time, he wants us to honour him with our money. Of course, God wants us to use all our money in ways that honour him, but he also asks that we offer back to him a specific portion of our income to his work through the local church.
While money is not our driving force at Shore, we require financial resources in order to lease property, pay staff, provide children's resources, support missionaries, run our television ministry, and do many other things that help people discover Jesus and follow him.
If Shore is your church home, we encourage you to decide on a percentage of your income to donate to the work of the church. In the Old Testament, 10% of people's income was the standard amount (Lev. 27:30). While this is a good benchmark, the New Testament does not give us a specific figure, but teaches that we are to give generously (Rom. 12:8, 2 Cor. 8:7). God wants us to give willingly in proportion to what we have.
Because giving should be intentional and not haphazard, we encourage you set up a system of giving regularly and systematically to Shore.

You can do this one of two ways:

Option 1-automatic giving
Most banks allow you to set up an automatic payment through internet banking (see direct debit account number below). Alternatively, you can create an automatic payment by filling out an AP form (available from the Info Centre on Sunday) and taking it into your bank.

Option 2-manual giving
You can give manually by placing a cheque or cash in the offering bag as it is passed out on Sunday mornings. Make sure you indicate your giving number (see below) on the cheque. If giving cash, you can put it in one of the brown giving envelopes available from the Info Centre and write your giving number on the outside.

Before you start giving, contact the church office to obtain a giving number, so you can claim a tax rebate on your giving

Our Teaching - Our Teaching

At Shore we provide Bible-based teaching each Sunday as part of our services. This reflects our commitment to be a Word-centred church where the Bible is the centre of our life, faith and identity together. It's our shared story and we're seeking to live it out individually and collectively.

Our approach to biblical teaching is to work through a book of the Bible, connecting its original meaning to our contemporary lives. As well as this, we also have topical series' and one-off messages on particular topics.

You can listen to our message online, subscribe to our Podcast, and order messages on CD or DVD through Connection Resources.

You can also access our teaching through our TV programme Connection Point that screens on Shine TV (Sky channel 111) at the following times: Sundays 11.30am, 10.00pm, Mondays 4.00am, Fridays 8.30am, Saturday 2.30am. . This programme features the messages of Shore Community Christian Church and helps make biblical teaching available throughout New Zealand.

We also run teaching courses and workshops on various topics at various times. Check out our church calendar for upcoming teaching events.

Pastoral Care - Pastoral Care

Part of being a church family is looking after one another. As a church we seek to foster practical care-giving with our community by meeting real needs in practical ways. Often this simply involves visiting, listening, encouraging, sharing and praying with those who are hurting. When appropriate, needs are referred to counsellors or other professionals who can provide specialised care. We also provide practical care such as meals, in particular situations.

A primary source of pastoral care at Shore happens through the Life Group ministry. Life Groups provide an avenue through which the caring for families and individuals can take place. When a need is beyond the resources of a Life Group, the pastoral care coordinator helps to assess the needs and seeks to co-ordinate the necessary support from the elders, prayer team, and outside resources. If you have a particular need, or would like more information about Pastoral Care, contact our Pastoral Care coordinator, Biffy Savage - pastoralcare@shore.org.nz , ph. 415 0455.

Sunday Morning Kids' Programmes - Children

While our 9am service is happening we run exciting programmes for kids in the surrounding classrooms at Albany Junior High School. These programmes are divided into four age-appropriate streams (note: these are only available during our first service):

Creche (newborns - 2 years)
Our crèche provides a relaxed environment where parents can either drop children off or stay with them. In crèche, our trained leaders play music with the children and engage with them through rhyming games and puppet plays. Parents can feed their children in crèche and can bring the into the crèche as needed throughout the service.

Dynomites (2 - 5 years)
In Dynomites, toddlers enjoy play time as well as a structured programme involving both large group and small group activities. Our leaders use music, stories, crafts and props, and develop their relationships with the children to communicate truths from the Bible in a way these kids can understand.

Superkids (primary school age)
Superkids provides an opportunity for kids to explore who God is and what faith in Jesus is all about. We begin with some time for games and activities, then move into a large group teaching time where a trained leader takes a lesson based on biblical ideas. These lessons follow a curriculum that is followed right through the year. From these large groups, kids then break into smaller groups with their own dedicated leaders. This is a vital time for the kids to connect with each other and their leader and dig deeper into how Jesus can change their lives everyday.

GAP (intermediate Age)
For our year 7-8 kids, GAP is provided as a transitional programme between SuperKids and our Youth Ministry. GAP is based around group clusters where kids interact with their leaders as they work through a lesson based on principles from the Bible. GAP helps kids to relate to each other in this small group environment, which forms the foundation of our teenage youth programmes.

Core doctrine - What We Believe

The sole basis of our belief is the Bible, comprising the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments. The Bible was given through the inspiration of God, who used men to pen His words. Therefore, the Bible is the final authority in matters of faith and practice for the believer in Jesus Christ and for His Church.

There is only one true, holy and just God, externally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is all powerful, all knowing and has set in place a plan to save those who trust in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He came to earth, became flesh and was completely God and man. Jesus died upon a cross to bring salvation and forgiveness of sins to those who choose to follow Him. He arose from the grave and is alive and working in His kingdom, the Church. Jesus will come to earth again to bring judgement.

The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father following Jesus' return to Heaven. The Holy Spirit is here to convict men and women's hearts of sin and to provide guidance, assurance, comfort and wisdom to those who believe. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control are outward signs of the presence of the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5)

The central purpose of God's revelation through Scripture is to call people into fellowship with Himself. This is made possible through the death of Jesus, and His being raised again to life. The free gift of salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. God's Word gives the following instruction to those accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord: Acknowledge you are a sinner and in need of a Saviour. (Romans 3:23, Act 2:37-38, Ephesians 2:1-3)Believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the only way for salvation. (1 Peter 3:18, Colossians 1:19-20, Ephesians 2:4-9, Mark 16:16)Confess that Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the dead. (Matthew 10:32, Luke 12:8, Romans 10:9-10)Turn from your sin and embrace God's way for your life. (Luke 3:8, Acts 2:38, 3:19, Romans 6:1-2, 2 Corinthians 7:10)Be baptised in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Romans 6:3-10, Colossians 2:11-12, Acts 2:38, 22:16)

All those who continue to live by faith under the Lordship of Jesus Christ can be assured of their Salvation and the promise of eternal life with God.

Shore Community Christian Church is a community of people seeking to love God, love people and follow Jesus. We exist to help realise God's dream for the world by bringing his kingdom (Jesus' term for God's plan for humanity) to earth in practical ways. God's kingdom is not simply a ‘spiritual' kingdom that exists in our hearts, but is a revolution of love that brings God's kindness and grace to bear on a messed up world. By modelling a community of faith, hope and love, and reaching out to those around us with the love and message of Jesus, we're helping to make that kingdom a reality everyday.

At Shore, we emphasise five "golden threads," values that underpin everything we do:Reaching - helping people discover Jesus, and demonstrating his love to people outside the church in practical ways.Worshipping - gathering to honour God through music and the arts, communion, and teaching based on the Bible.Growing - helping one another move toward spiritual maturity by becoming more like Jesus. Caring - loving and encouraging each other in practical ways.Praying - weaving prayer into every one of these areas.

A church is like a human body. In a healthy body, each part is connected and is working properly to help strengthen the whole person. In the same way, each person at Shore is an equally valuable and important part of the church body.

That's why we encourage every person at Shore to be involved in at least one area of ministry.

There are a range of ministry opportunities at Shore to suit different interests and passions. You can download our 'volunteer opportunities' brochure here and decide on an area that fits you. Then email us here to let us know what area you're interested in serving in. If you're not sure, we're happy to help guide you toward an area that will be right for you.

In January 2005 I shifted from being part of Student Life Auckland to being part of Student Life Waikato. Well I've survived being South of the Bombay's for almost 2 years. The campus, the students, the surroundings, are all different, but one thing stays the same; people still need Jesus!

Despite initial impressions I have seen that many students are thinking about the spiritual side of life. It's so neat to see God at work in their hearts and lives as I come alongside them and explore with them who Jesus is, and how He is relevant to them personally.

It is so exciting to get to do what I do on campus! I get to talk to people about Jesus; His death, life & resurrection and what that means for us personally! I get to see God at work in students lives! I get to see students coming to Christ, built up in their faith, trained to share that faith and then ultimately being sent to impact others for Christ... and to start the process all over again!

Growing closer to Jesus is a lifelong process and not one that we were designed to do alone. As well as providing Life Groups, Shore also facilitates smaller clusters of 2, 3 or 4 people who support and encourage each other in their faith journey. This is especially helpful for people who are new Christians, to help them grow in their faith. It's also great for people further along the journey, to help them keep growing in their relationship with God.

We can help you find the right relational context for you:

- A mentoring relationship with someone a bit further along the spiritual pathway than you, who can help and guide you.

- A support group or individual who can encourage, support and pray for you and provide the accountability that will help you keep growing.

- Referrals to specialist counsellors who can help you work through issues you may be facing.

- We also provide discipleship resources like books and CDs that provide valuable teaching to help you grow closer to Jesus.

For more information on discipleship at Shore, contact our discipleship ministry leader, Jill Shaw - onajourney@xtra.co.nz, ph. 021 171 3178.

Prayer is a vital part of our church life and underpins everything we do. It teaches us to depend on God and not on our own effort and energy, and it releases God's willingness to act in us and through us to build his kingdom.
We encourage you to pray individually, and prayer is also an important part of our life group meetings. In addition, we have an open prayer meeting every Sunday before our first service, at 8:25am in the Performing Arts Centre at Albany Junior High School. We also have a prayer chain, a network for prayer needs within the church family.

The MOB is about building community among guys, helping guys grow in their faith and fostering a support system among men at Shore. We want to help guys of all ages navigate the difficult issues that life throws at them and become more connected to one another and to Jesus.

We do this through:

- Semi-regular social events for guys of all ages to connect in casual and fun ways.

- Courses and workshops just for guys on the big questions of life, and issues particularly relevant to men, such as men's health.

- Facilitating opportunities for guys to serve others in and out of the church in practical ways (e.g. construction project at the school where we meet).

- Weekly Pit-Stop groups where guys working in the same area can get together for breakfast or lunch to touch base and encourage each other.

- Other occasional events such as a mens camp and promotion of the Promise Keepers men's conference.

Shore also provides church-wide events that are targeted at non-Christians, in which we present the gospel message in a clear and relevant way. Our primary avenue for this is our regular outreach services. We encourage people to bring non-Christians along to these services, which are relaxed and non-threatening, often featuring a guest speaker or musician.

We also run a six week course called Christianity Explored. This course is designed for the seeker and is run as a discussion group where the various aspects of the Christian faith are explored.
We also have an active presence on Massey University Campus, having a stand at Orientation Week and participating in campus-wide events such as Spirituality Week.

We believe evangelism happens best when ordinary Christians take the initiative to share the message of the Christian faith with those they know. Because evangelism is most effective in the context of a personal relationship, this is the primary strategy we use to reach people on the North Shore and beyond. To this end, we are committed to equipping Christians to clearly and faithfully share the good news of Jesus Christ with people they know who do not know him. We provide regular evangelism training classes, giving people the tools and confidence to reach out to those around them.
